Trump Impeachment Defense Mired in Calls for Executive Privilege of Secrecy, Withheld Evidence that Show Support of Political and Foreign Interests

It has long been established that President Trump’s 2016 political campaign began with allegations of election tampering and an internet blitz of misleading political campaign propaganda with the support of the Russian government that seems to continue as the 2020 presidential election draws near.

To this day, Trump’s dealings with the Russian government remain mired in secrecy as do the impeachment testimony of his foreign policy administration officials with regards to incidents involving the Ukraine.

Much of the secrecy surrounding the suppressed testimony and documentation of relevant witnesses with firsthand knowledge of Trump’s dealings with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky seems to benefit Trump’s 2020 election campaign and the interests of Trump’s key foreign supporter, Russian President Vladimir Putin.

What may be implied from the impeachment inquiry is that Trump’s disturbing ongoing political relationship with Russia and its militaristic conflict with the Ukraine, is that American foreign policy with such strategic allies as the Ukraine may become jeopardized and result in a threat to America’s national security.

American foreign policy with the Ukraine involves continued support of its democratic government in the face of continued military conflict with Russian factions that have sought to invade strategic posts within Ukrainian territories. U.S. foreign aid has supported continued efforts by the Ukrainian government to resist Russian military invasions.

Despite attempts by Trump’s defense attorneys at the Senate Impeachment Trial of late to deflect attention onto a detailed account of former Vice President Biden’s dealings with the Ukrainian government and potential conflict of interest, the pressing matter for the Senate under the Articles of Impeachment is Trump’s abuse of power by using financial assistance to the Ukraine, an ally nation at war, as a bargaining chip for his own political advantage in the upcoming presidential election.

The moral implications of such abuse of power to leverage over the Ukraine monies allocated by the U.S. government – over a nation at war with Russian separatists supported by the Russian government – beg the question to it relevance to the safety of the national security of the American people and of American allies.

By asserting executive privilege as justification for his actions with Ukraine, his coverup and obstruction of investigations by a congressional impeachment inquiry, President Trump has put into question the boundaries of the Separation of Powers Act with regard to foreign policy, national security and the integrity of domestic political elections.

The Articles of Impeachment address an abuse of power by President Trump through his assertion of executive privilege as justification for his investigation of former Vice President Joe Biden while withholding aid to the Ukraine, and as justification for withholding subpoenaed documents and testimonies.

The Articles further assert an obstruction of congressional investigations by President Trump’s refusal to cooperate with congressional subpoenas for testimonies and documents and encouraging his staff to do the same in an attempt to coverup his misdeeds.

The biggest question remains to be answered: Did President Trump’s efforts to gain political advantage over his 2020 presidential election opponent disrupt military efforts of democratic Ukraine and serve Putin’s military interests in Ukrainian territories?
